Box and Papers (B&P)
Authenticity & ScopeThe complete set of original manufacturer presentation materials accompanying a timepiece, including the inner and outer boxes, official guarantee card or certificate, operating manuals, and tags.
Full Set / Double Boxed
Authenticity & ScopeA collectors term signifying that the watch includes literally everything it was originally delivered with from the authorized dealer: inner box, outer cardboard box, guarantee card, manual booklets, bezel protector, swing tags, and all factory bracelet links.
Memo (Consignment On Approval)
Trading & OperationsA commercial arrangement where one watch dealer lends a physical timepiece to another dealer or vetted VIP client for inspection, photography, or showing to an end-buyer without immediate upfront payment.
NOS (New Old Stock)
Authenticity & ScopeA discontinued or vintage timepiece that has never been sold to a retail consumer, never worn, and preserved in its original factory condition, often retaining protective factory stickers.
Reference Number (Model Number)
Watch Anatomy & SpecsThe manufacturer’s alphanumeric code that identifies a specific watch model, case design, metal composition, and dial configuration (e.g. Rolex 116500LN or Patek Philippe 5711/1A-010).
Serial Number
Authenticity & ScopeA unique alphanumeric identifier engraved on the watch case, movement, or rehaut by the manufacturer. No two authentic watches produced by a brand share the same serial number.
Armored Transit (Malca-Amit / Brinks)
Trading & OperationsSpecialized high-security logistics services that transport high-value luxury goods using armored vehicles, secure air freight, and armed couriers with full replacement value insurance coverage.
Frankenwatch
Authenticity & ScopeA derogatory horological term for a timepiece assembled using a mix of disparate original, replacement, or aftermarket parts from different watches or non-authentic suppliers.
Margin Scheme (VAT Qualifying)
Trading & OperationsA tax provision in the UK, EU, and other jurisdictions allowing dealers of secondhand goods to pay value-added tax only on the gross profit margin earned rather than the total sale value.
Rehaut (Inner Bezel Ring)
Watch Anatomy & SpecsThe circular metal flange or rim separating the dial from the sapphire crystal. On modern Rolex watches, the rehaut features laser engraving with the brand name and the unique serial number at 6 o’clock.
Extract from the Archives
Authenticity & ScopeAn official certificate issued by heritage watchmakers (such as Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, or Omega) verifying production date, movement number, and original configuration based on company ledger records.
Escrow Settlement
Trading & OperationsA third-party financial arrangement where purchase funds are held by an impartial intermediary until the buyer receives and authenticates the timepiece, after which funds are released to the dealer.
